How Long Should the Script be?

It's tempting when writing a script to throw the kitchen sink at it, for fear of missing an important point. Then you hear the result will be 20 minutes long and cost 10x your budget.

"How long should it be?!”

Voiceover-Driven Animation

People naturally chat at a pace of 125-150 words per minute. So, for a voiceover-driven animated video, aiming for around 120 words per minute is the golden ticket. This ensures your message is delivered with the perfect cadence – not too rushed, not too leisurely, just right.

On-Screen Text

Now, if your animated masterpiece relies on on-screen text to tell the tale, we're looking at a different rhythm. It's like a snappy espresso shot compared to the leisurely stroll of voiceover. Here, you can comfortably halve the word count – think around 60 words per minute. This keeps your audience engaged without overwhelming them with a text marathon.

“This isn’t as long as I thought”.

Nope. It’s something I still grapple with: Your video script needs to be really concise. Additional messaging may be important, but it can’t go in the video.
