Pete’s Processes

I’ve been working as a motion designer for nearly 10 years. I’ve been part of projects that were run smoothly, and projects where no one on the team - not even the account manager - could tell you what was going on!

My process is designed to be as clear and efficient as possible:

  1. Script

  2. Concept

  3. Character Design

  4. Storyboard

  5. Animation (with music, SFX, voiceover and subtitles)

  6. Social / Alt. Versions

The simple rule is: We don’t move forward to the next phase until the previous one is signed off. This structure ensures all stakeholders - from the client’s boss, to the client’s boss’s boss - is happy with progress.

I have worked with agencies that use a different process. It is always more work, and someone has to pay for it.

I vividly remember producing animation for an agency which never bothered to get sign-off at the storyboarding phase, assuming we could “tweak things later”. Their client ended up wanting significant revisions, not “tweaks”, which doubled the workload.

These experiences reaffirmed that my process isn’t just a guideline—it’s a safeguard. It’s how I ensure projects to time and stick to the budget.
