Case Study: Hustl | A Startup’s Animated Brand Film

Hustl is an app for solopreneurs, integrating with sales platforms such as eBay, Shopify, Amazon and more so you can view all your orders, tasks and shipping options from one place.

As a startup, Hustl had a limited budget to work with, which required a careful approach.

Company director Paul Bennett approached me to create an animated film for launch day. He had a limited budget, and knew hiring a freelance motion designer with experience across the whole production pipeline would be more cost-efficient than approaching an animation studio or video production agency.

A nearly signed off version of the storyboard

Initial blocking was done by my friend and colleague, Jack Hart. It was then my task to spend a day refining his groundwork, adding finesses, finishing touches and devising an animated logo.

Character animation behind-the-scenes

When Paul reviewed the second edit, his feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and served as a reminder of the importance of the small seemingly unimportant details of animation. It's often these nuances that bring the work to life and elevate the whole piece.

What’s more, Hustl liked the animated logo so much they requested it as a stand-alone asset for use on the web and in other marketing materials.

I'm really please with the brand film, and look forward to watching Hustl's success play out. I think they have a great product.
